Crafting a vision for the future of Central Village Park

The Park’s Next Chapter

Nearly five decades after its original development, neighbors are partnering with The Trust for Public Land, Summit-University Planning Council, the City of St. Paul, and Springboard for the Arts to write the next chapter in the park’s story. Cherished by multiple generations of neighbors, many recognize the park has untapped opportunities. Neighbors envision a space that reflects the surrounding community’s multiculturalism and resilient history – creating a safe, welcoming space for all.

Through a cooperative, community-based planning process, this 7-acre park and trail system will enhance community health, offer recreational opportunities, and create a vibrant gathering space for neighbors, ensuring residents have a place outdoors to connect and call their own.

Within the planning process, artist organizers Aki Shibata and Heather Peebles will guide community conversations, community building and engagement through art activities and programs. In an early success, fifty-year-old lighting has been replaced as a result of long-term neighborhood advocacy, support from The Trust for Public Land, and hard work of city staff.
